Editorial Standards

Meridian House Media Network Trust maintains a unified Editorial Charter governing all publications under its stewardship.

These standards exist to ensure accuracy, accountability, transparency, and independence in journalism, and to provide a clear framework within which editors, contributors, and correspondents operate.

Core Editorial Principles

All reporting must be grounded in verification, evidence, and responsible sourcing. Assertions presented as fact must be supported by attributable sources or clearly documented material.

Opinion, analysis, and reporting are to be clearly distinguished in both form and presentation, ensuring that readers can accurately assess the nature of the content they are engaging with.

Accuracy takes precedence over speed. The Trust does not incentivise rapid publication at the expense of verification or context.

Sources and Attribution

Sources must be identified wherever possible. Anonymous sources are used only when necessary and when the information provided serves a clear public-interest purpose.

Editors are responsible for assessing the credibility, motivation, and reliability of sources prior to publication.

The Trust expects publications to exercise restraint in the use of unnamed or confidential sources, and to document editorial justification for such use internally.

Corrections and Transparency

Errors, when identified, must be corrected promptly and transparently.

Corrections should clearly state what was inaccurate and how it has been amended, without obscuring or minimising the original error.

Retractions are issued when material inaccuracies fundamentally compromise the integrity of a report.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors, contributors, and correspondents are required to disclose any personal, financial, or professional interests that could reasonably be perceived to influence their work.

Where conflicts exist, appropriate disclosure or recusal is required.

Independence from External Influence

Editorial decisions are made independently of trustees, donors, advertisers, political entities, or commercial partners.

Meridian House does not permit sponsored content, paid editorial placement, or undisclosed promotional material within its publications.

Responsibility and Review

Editors bear primary responsibility for ensuring compliance with the Editorial Charter.

The Trust reserves the right to review editorial processes for standards compliance without intervening in editorial judgment or content direction.

The Editorial Charter reflects Meridian House Media Network Trust’s commitment to journalism as a public institution, governed by discipline, integrity, and responsibility.
